Chocolate Fertility Fat Bombs

Can I interest you in the EASIEST sweet treats ever? There's only 5 non-fancy ingredients and no special kitchen tools required. And unlike most refined sugar desserts, this one is full of fertility-friendly ingredients. Oh and did I mention they only take 15 minutes to make? Do I have your

attention yet?! I hope so, because this has become my go-to sweet treat recipe and I PROMISE you won't be disappointed.

You might be thinking, "chocolate is enticing but what the heck is a fat bomb?" I'm so glad you asked ;) Fat bombs are bite-sized pieces of glory that feature healthy fat as the main ingredient. For a thorough discussion on why healthy fats are important for fertility, read the article I wrote for EcoParent Magazine here. In a nut shell, what you need to know about dietary fats is that eating them does NOT make you fat. That myth was debunked years ago but the fear of fat persists. Fat is your friend, guys. In fact, every cell in your body requires healthy fat in order to work well. Hormones are made of fat, so you need to be eating them in order to have balanced sex hormones and optimal fertility. Healthy fats are also imperative for blood sugar balance and they keep you feeling full for longer than carbohydrates do. This recipe includes not one but THREE healthy fats: avocado, coconut oil, and almond butter, which, together, also provide fiber, folate, and protein.

And lastly, I want to make sure you know that chocolate is a fertility superfood! Not the cheap, waxy milk chocolate variety, but real chocolate, aka raw cacao. It is one of the best sources of antioxidants found in any food on the planet! Antioxidants protect and repair damage to cells, organs, and tissues and are an important part of any fertility diet because both eggs and sperm are highly susceptible to damage. Real chocolate is also a great source of magnesium, an important mineral for hormone balance. Did you know magnesium is an essential aid in the production of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone? Magnesium is also depleted under stressful conditions (hello modern living!) because the body draws on magnesium to calm the nervous system and offset cortisol. When we're chronically stressed, we produce excess stress hormones which can knock other hormones (like the sex hormones) out of balance, so we need adequate magnesium in order to keep things in check.

Are you ready to whip up a batch of these rich, decadent, fertility superstars? Schedule 15 minutes into your calendar to get these done, okay? You can thank me later :)

Chocolate Fertility Fat Bombs

1 avocado (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup), mashed with a fork until smooth 2 tablespoons coconut oil 1 heaping tablespoon almond butter 1.5 tablespoons pure maple syrup 4 tablespoons raw cacao powder Pinch of sea salt

Melt the coconut oil, almond butter, maple syrup, and cacao powder in a small pot over low heat. Remove from heat and mix in the avocado, and sea salt. Taste and add a tiny bit more maple syrup, if necessary. There's a fine line between overly avocado-y and overly sweet.

Spoon into silicone mini muffin cups by the tablespoonful and freeze 30 mins. Paper mini muffin cups work too.

Store in freezer for best texture.

Enjoy!

Tip: if you absolutely cannot wait the 30 minutes for these to harden in the freezer, feel free to eat as a pudding. Speaking from experience, this is perfectly acceptable and utterly delicious :)

Note: In the photo above I used some butter instead of coconut oil. While delicious, it didn't blend in very well, hence the yellow ring around each fat bomb in the photo :)
